Diet for cancer patients during chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the process of treatment of disease by chemicals especially for cancer patients and includes the process of killing the micro organism or cancerous cells by using chemicals.

Since the cancer patients go through the chemotherapy treatment methods, it becomes important to know as to what kind of chemotherapy diet shall be adequate for them that may provide also the balanced intake of food to recover from the ailment in quick successions.

Let’s take a quick look at what kind of diets can be useful to be included for patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy.

The good news for the cancer patients is that even during chemotherapy, they can enjoy their food as it is this time that the intake of food becomes a much important aspect to supplement the patients in their attempt to recover from the curious disease.

  • Don’t indulge over the things you simply enjoy eating particularly on the days of chemo. Whether its turkey sandwich or a milk chocolate, you need to keep at bay as the chemical intake in the food can cause much discomforts later.

  • You might feel like eating after the chemo process but there are some drugs available to make you go for the food. Let’s have a look!

  • If you can stomach only rice, make sure you boil the same with chicken or vegetables stock instead of plain water.

  • Opt for higher protein combination like hummus & pita bread or cheese or crackers.

  • A beans snack would be ideal since they are high in protein, fiber, thiamin, iron and folate.

  • Make organic blueberries with apple, guava, cranberry or grape but avoid orange juices or other citrus based food as their intake can spoil the taste of the mouth.

  • Also have bananas and yoghurt too.
