Oral chemotherapy is one of the most popular types of giving chemotherapy treatment. Another popular method is Intravenous Chemotherapy. This treatment is given in the form of pills and capsules and is swallowed with water.

The merit of the oral chemotherapy is that the individual need not make frequent visits to the hospital as these medicines can be taken at home. This method also provides an additional benefit of getting relief from the pain experienced while taking other method for chemotherapy treatment such as injections.

However, it is necessary to strictly follow the guidelines while taking these chemotherapy drugs prescribed by the individual. They are described below:

  • The pills or capsules should not be chewed and should be swallowed using water.

  • The medicines should be taken at the right time. It should also be taken either before or after lunch as specified by your doctor. Follow the diet and precautions to be taken while undergoing this treatment.

  • Undertake all the tests prescribed by the doctor for determining the effect of the chemotherapy drugs taken during the treatment. The treatment also requires all the monitoring tests which are used for the other techniques of chemotherapy. Based on the results of these tests the further course of your medicines would be determined by the doctor.

  • In case, if you forget to take the medicines, then consult the doctor.

  • You should wash your hands after taking these medicines and keep these medicines safely away from the reach of children in your home.

  • You should be constantly in touch with the doctor. These medicines would result in many side effects. You can discuss it with your health professional and take the medicines which would provide a relief from these side effects.

  • You should strictly follow the time span and medical advice for taking these medicines. You should also check out whether there is any friend or family member to guide you or help you during the treatment.

  • Be informed about the right method for storing these medicines safely in your house. Make all your queries and guidelines related to taking these medicines clear with the doctor.
